Why Is government So Obsessed With Senior High Schools To The Neglect Of Basic Schools?

It’s no doubt that the interventions at the SHS are good and needed but looking at the our Educational Needs as a country and the way we complain about about how broke the economy is, should excessive focus on SHS be the topmost priority?

1. We buy school uniforms for SHS students.
2. We feed all SHS students, both day and boarding.
4. We house SHS students for free.
5. We provided core subjects texbooks to SHS students.
6. We bought calculators for them though it came late.
7. We finally bought them past Question and chief examiner’s report.

While we are doing all these, Their younger siblings at the KG, Primary and JHS ;
1. are learning under trees or in deathtraps.
2. Don’t have texbooks for two years.
3. Are equally hungry especially in the villages.
4. Are wearing ridiculous uniforms to school.
5. Lack teachers due to terrible conditions.

The amount spent on past Question last year alone can remove more than half of the schools under trees. If we add this year’s own to it, we can remove all schools under trees and repaint existing ones to look decent.

If we allowed parents to be responsible to some extent, at least sewing school uniforms for their wards, that money can expand school feeding Program to reach more of the younger ones in the villages. I sometimes wonder if those at the helm of affairs ever studied Economics in their high school. They seem to have no idea about scale of preference.

Just look at the One Teacher One Laptop thing. Basic schools lack texbooks. You promised to preload the laptops with core subject contents, Resource packs and other relevant materials and distribute to teachers.

Just when basic school teachers are anxiously anticipating, you sideline them and moved up the ladder to SHS level. I seriously do not understand the reasoning behind the neglect for basic schools. I think I need some Education.
