NEWS IN: NTC Opened Application Portal For The Ghana Teachers Prize 2021, Here Are The Requirements And The Deadline For Application

GHANA TEACHER PRIZE 2021 APPLICATION IS OPENED

The Ministry of Education through the National Teaching Council (NTC) has opened applications and nominations for teachers to apply for the Ghana Teacher Prize 2021.

The Prize is opened to Ghanaian teachers in pre-tertiary schools (both public and private).

All applicants are expected to adhere strictly to the attached selection criteria. The deadline for application is 30th March, 2021.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND ELIGIBILITY FOR GHANA TEACHER PRIZE 2021 (TEACHING CATEGORY)

Eligibility

The Prize is open to all teachers who have taught for five (5) years and teach children who are in compulsory schooling or are between the ages of four and eighteen. It is opened to teachers in every kind of school and subject.

Selection Criteria

Applications for the Ghana Teacher Prize will be judged based on a rigorous set of criteria to identify an extraordinary teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession.

The final judging committee will look for evidence of:

1. Recognition of a teacher’s

achievements in the classroom and beyond from pupils, colleagues, headteachers or members of the wider community.

For example, through local/national teaching awards.

2. Employing innovative and effective instructional practices that are replicable and scalable.

For example, through the innovative use of technology or non-typical instructional techniques that can be replicated in other classrooms

3. Achieving demonstrable student learning outcomes in the classroom.
For example, through the improvement of student grades, student attendance/ behaviour; students becoming achievers in the world of work.

4. Ensuring children receive value-based education that prepares them to be global citizens in the world where they will encounter people from different religions, cultures and nationalities.

For example, by linking up with schools in other parts of the community/ country, promoting exchange programmes. Explain your philosophical approach to embedding global citizenship in your classroom. How do you define success?

5. Achievements in the community beyond the classroom that provide unique and distinguished models of excellence for the teaching profession and others.

For example, recognition through the media, community awards, talks, seminars; membership of local organizations. How do you bring the community into your classroom?

6. Encouraging others to join the teaching profession. Contributing to public debates on the teaching profession, whether through writing articles, blogs, media participation, social media campaigns, events or conferences. He or she should also be knowledgeable about educational policies and issues.

For example, through teaching or mentoring teachers at your school or Colleges of Education/ Universities. Please provide examples of what you have done to elevate the status of teaching in your country.

7. Professional Competence
This includes assessment of academic potentialities, quality delivery of service in the individual’s way of operations in his or her professional area.

8. Personality Factors
This includes the social, moral, emotional and spiritual characteristics of the staff that gives positive manifestations of his/her role as a staff in the education sector and a model personality for the students.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND ELIGIBILITY FOR GHANA TEACHER PRIZE 2021 (NON-TEACHING CATEGORY)

The criteria to identify the most outstanding Non-Teaching Staff in Ghana who made the most significant contribution towards education delivery should be as follows:

• Achieving demonstrable indicators in the area of operation of the individual staff.

For example, meeting deadlines with assignments to meet the expectation of the institution or office in the area where the staff operates. These includes:

a. Submission of timely reports of institutions and other offices.

b. How prudent the staff operated with regards to finances of the institution or office (cost-saving).

c. Punctuality.

d. Efficiency and effectiveness in the organization.

• Recognition of the Staff achievements in the institution or office, for example unique performances or an output that enables the institution to impact positively on the students.

• Helping the Department in which the staff works to achieve its targets (for example timely filing of documents in registries etc).

• Commitment

Staff who are committed to working in the Ghana Education Service, develop themselves and staying to uplift the image of the Ghana Education Service.

• Achievements in the community beyond the institution or office that provide unique and distinguished models of excellence for the work the Individual does.

(Recognition through community awards, talks, seminars, membership of local organisations, written contributions in media, with a focus on bringing the community into the school environment for the community to understand its role in the delivery of education in the area)

* OTHER FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION

1. Professional Competence

This category of assessment includes academic potentialities, quality delivery of service in the individuals’ ways of operation’s in his or her professional area (for example, Administrative Officer, Supply Officer, Accountant etc).

2. Personality Factors

This includes the social, moral, emotional and spiritual characteristics of the staff that gives positive manifestations of his/her role as a staff in the education sector and a model personality to the Youth.
His or her work experience in rural/urban settings is an added advantage.

Also his/her attitude towards children especially disadvantaged children such as orphans and those from broken homes are all part of personality factors.

3. Contribution to the Community
Takes into account, staff’s participation in communal and contributions to the social, educational, economic, agricultural, moral life and development of the local community in particular and the larger community in general.

4. Additional Factors includes:

(a) The staff should have worked for a minimum of five (5) years.

(b) The staff should have shown innovativeness and creativity in his or her professional area.

(c) The staff should have made efforts to upgrade his/her academic and professional qualities.

(d) The Staff should have made significant impact in the community and looked upon as an opinion leader.

(e) The staff should be well informed especially about educational policies and issues.

Nomination

Based on the competency-based criteria, nomination of non-teaching staff can be done as follows:

i. Self-nomination.

ii. School nomination.

iii. PTA of School nominated.

iv. Community nomination.

v. Union nomination.
