The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated that the writing of lesson notes in the Ghana Education Service (GES) is over.

This revelation was made when he was at Ashesi University on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. He was speaking under the theme “Transforming An Economy Through Digitalization”

In his speech the vice president disclosed how committed the government is to better the educational system in the country. Dr. Bawumia said the government has provided 350,000 teachers with laptops under the one teacher, one laptop initiative.

According to Dr. Bawumia, this initiative is to help put a halt to the writing of lesson notes by teachers.

We have provided 350,000 teachers with laptops under the one teacher, one laptop initiative. So for teachers, the writing of lesson notes into notebooks is over because the curriculum materials are already installed on the laptops”, he said.

In his submission, he additionally, revealed that there is a new initiative aimed at providing tablets to SHS students and will be implemented soon.

“Our next goal ladies and gentlemen are to provide tablets to high school students. We have started working with publishers and the idea is to preload all the tablets that we will provide the students with all the required textbooks so that we don’t have to keep buying textbooks. They can have them digitally available on their tablets for learning,”. He added.

This is the second time emphasis on the end of lesson notes writing for Ghanaian teachers has been confirmed.

The first confirmation came on Friday, 3rd September 2021. That was during the launching of TM1 laptops under the one teacher, one laptop initiative.

A post on the official website, Presidency.gov.gh also confirmed that writing of lesson notes by teachers in Ghana will soon be over.

“With the curriculum materials already installed onto the laptops, the suggested lesson notes prepared by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) can be downloaded onto the laptops. This can be used to end the burdensome task of writing lesson notes into notebooks. The post stated.

Many teachers in Ghana have complained about the manual writing of lesson notes. This may be a good news for some teachers.
