*FORMER MP’S SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT ABANDONED AS KIDS STUDY UNDER TREES AND OPEN SPACES*
NEWS IN: Former MP’s School Building Project Abandoned As Kids Study Under Trees And Open Spaces
*JUNE 6, 2022*
The pupils of NADIGIRI Primary School at Tempane District in the Upper East Region are compelled to study under trees and open spaces due to the lack of classrooms.
The former Member of Parliament, Hon Joseph Dindiok Kpemka started a school building project and since he lost his seat the project has come to a halt due to the unavialability of funds to complete the project.
The school authorities revealed that the pupils had been studying under trees for some years now.
Some of the pupils said they mostly got distracted during classes either by the scorching sun or rain.
“We can’t learn well because animals are always making noise while the school has been used as a route by bicycle and motorbike riders” they complained.
They said they were not able to go to school during the rainy season due to a lack of shelter and therefore, appealed to the government and other corporate and organisations to come to their aid.
Mr. Anabida Issaka the Tempane District Chief Executive Officer (DCE) had acknowledged the problem and is impeding quality of education in the area.
“If we want to have quality education, the child shouldn’t be studying under conditions he or she is not comfortable with,” he stressed”
He said the assembly had been contacted about the abandoned project and efforts were been made to complete the classroom block for the school children to study.
The Sustainable Development Goal 4, to which Ghana is a signatory, talks about ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
