RE: TEACHER TRAINEE ON TEACHING PRACTICE IMPREGNATES 24 GIRLS, HEADMISTRESS AND FOUR FEMALE TEACHERS-VOLTAWEBPAGE.COM

From management in Asokore Mampong. Thursday 2nd June, 2022 – The attention of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Education Directorate has been drawn to a publication claiming that a teacher trainee doing his internship in one of the M/A schools under the Education Directorate has impregnated 24 school girls, four female teachers and the headmistress of the alleged school.

According to The Asokore Mampong Municipal Education Directorate they hereby informs the general public that this publication is totally false. The Education Directorate since its inception. has not engaged colleges of Education to post teacher trainees into any of our schools.

Teacher trainees are posted within their home-regions Trainees are posted to schools in districts within their Region of studies and are mostly sent to schools that lack trained teachers. Asokore Mampong does not have such challenge.

According to the Municipal, there are eight (8) M/A schools under the Education Directorate, all of these school are headed by males except Aboabo M/A JHS which is headed by a female who is far advance in age and is due for retirement in 2023.

The Directorate has records to prove the reduction of teenage pregnancy in our schools. The Girls’ Education unit has over the past 3 years recorded incredibly lower number of pregnant school girls in schools in our Municiplity

The immediate past National Coordinator of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG), Joshua Owusu Yeboah has called on teacher unions to call for the arrest of the publisher of a story trending on social media against their noble teaching profession.

According to the professional teacher Joshua Owusu, the arrest of said publisher would go a long way to redeem and restore the integrity of teachers and the teaching profession, since the said story indicated that, a headmistress and four other female teachers were impregnated by a practicing teacher trainee.

In the early hours of Friday, June 3, 2022, a story published by one Sir Obed Fieve of voltawebpage.com indicated that a teacher trainee on teaching practice at Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti Region has impregnated 24 girls, a headmistress and four female teachers.

According to Joshua Owusu Yeboah, a simple analysis of the story would help one to understand and know the malicious intention of the publisher.

He explained that, the proximity is a key factor in considering where a teacher trainee is sent to embark on teaching practice. He indicated that, there couldn’t be any possibility for a College of Education in the Western Region to permit its teacher trainees to undergo teaching practice in the Ashanti Region, as stipulated by the said story.

He further argued that, the Western Region has only one College of Education (Holy Child College of Education), which happens to be an all female College of Education. This is a clear indication that, there couldn’t be any possibility of a female trainee impregnating other 24 female students, to even talk of female teachers and a headmistress.

He again added that, trainees have only embarked on one teaching practice (Macro teaching) which lasted for only four months in 2021 (September 2021 to December 2021) since the introduction of the B.Ed programme in the Colleges (excluding their Supported Teaching in Schools- STS).

Joshua Owusu Yeboah is convinced that, a disclaimer from the Mampong Educational Directorate, coupled with a legal action from the teacher unions would help redeem the integrity of the teaching profession.
