Advance for Teachers in GES
Here’s a breakdown of what it means:
What it is: It’s a financial advance (loan) that can be given to teachers who are confirmed staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
How much you can get: The maximum amount a teacher can receive as an advance is 150% of their annual gross salary.
For example, if your total annual gross salary is GHS 30,000, then the maximum advance you could receive would be GHS 45,000.
Repayment Terms:
This advance must be **repaid in 84 equal instalments.
That is, the repayment period could stretch over 7 years(since 84 months = 7 years).
The instalment will likely be deducted monthly from your salary.

Steps to Apply for the Advance for Teachers in GES
1. 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙢 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙀𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮
You must be a confirmed teacher in GES.
Your staff ID and appointment status must be active and verified by your district or regional office.
2. 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.
Address it to The Director General, GES through:

3. 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁s.
Include the following:
A copy of your latest payslip
A confirmation letter or appointment letter
Your staff ID
Any required guarantor forms if applicable (some districts may ask for this)
4. 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲.
The Headteacher and District Director must endorse your application.
The District Education Office will forward your application to the GES Headquarters or the appropriate Financial Controller’s office.
5. 𝙒𝙖𝙞𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙡 & 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩.
Once approved, the advance will be credited to your bank account on file with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
Deductions will begin automatically from your salary over 84 months.

It is best to confirm with your district finance office if they have a special application form or portal.
