School Licensing: All schools (public and private) are to be Licensed before the end of 2021. From 2022, any school operating without License is considered to be operating illegally and would be subjected to enforcement actions.
NaSIA (National School Inspectorate Authority) is the Agency under the Ministry of Education, responsible for the registration and licensing of new and existing Pre-Tertiary Educational Institutions (PTEIs). All PTEIs both private and public seeking to operate in Ghana must apply for authorization to operate from NaSIA and be granted a Provisional License valid for a year and subsequently a License. The License is valid for four years and renewable biennially, at least three months before the start of a new academic year.
Additional information about the licensing of PTEIs can be found in the School Licensing Policy. Education Regulatory Bodies Act 1023.
Attached is a flowchart that outlines guidelines for the provisional licensing of schools.
