It Is Rather Unfortunate That Some Teachers Have Sold Their Conscience To Partizan Politics For Personal Gains.
Some are ready to do anything to defend their party at all cost. If their party should enact a policy to cut their legs, they will gladly embrace it and walk with clutches to school. They will do anything to prove their loyalty.
Aside that category of teachers, there are some who find policies and directives worrying and unhelpful for teachers and Education at large but can’t speak or won’t speak because their party is in power. They don’t want to paint their party black. They don’t want people to tag them as hypocrites. They don’t want to lose a spot in the party. The culture of silence has imprisoned them.
They put themselves in groups to gain recognition. Politicians know exactly how to use and dump them. They know how to keep them silent. In the run-up to the 2020 election, a partizan group was launched dubbed “NPP Teachers Network” that saw a lot of teachers attending. Where are they now? They will only re-emerge in 2024.
These party *faithfools* and political *foolsoldiers* are usually the ones that thwart our efforts during industrial actions. What else apart from fear will make a teacher go to school to sign attendance during strike action? Your guess is as good as mine. They try to paint a perfect picture that all is well even when they are suffering.
Finally, there’s this category of teacher politicians who rebel against everything sometimes without properly thinking through. No matter how obviously good a policy is, they will criticize and reject it because it’s not coming from their party. They have no alternative too. Their party is in opposition so they have to do everything humanly possible to paint the other party black. All they care about is the next election. Some don’t even care to take the politics to the children in the classroom.
Why are we doing this to ourselves? Do we seriously want to be taken seriously with this behavior? We as professionals have to know when to strike the balance between personal, partizan and national interest. We are losing it.
We need teachers that can call spade a spade not a big spoon. We need teachers that can speak truth to power without fear or favor. We need patriotic teachers. Don’t leave your brain at home when going out to do your politics.
